About

The Vermont Gambia Garden Project is a village-level international development effort founded in 2017, working in Bafuluto Village, The Gambia, to end extreme poverty through food security, education, local economic development, and female empowerment. Guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the grassroots project provides water and land for 14 families to grow food and runs Eva's Learning Center, where 42 students receive tutoring in English and math. This year it was officially registered by the Gambian government as the Vermont Gambia Women's Organization. Co-founder Sue Dixon, a longtime fill-in vendor at the Shelburne Farmers Market, brings the project's hand-sewn goods to the booth.
